Message from Mrs. Haugen

Thank you, PEF!  Today, we were presented with a Meadow PEF grant and a Waugh PEF grant from Petaluma Educational Foundation.  PEF supports all Petaluma Schools through an annual grant writing program that is supported by businesses and community members like you!  Our Meadow grant will focus on the visual components of learning, like replacing old, worn-out whiteboards and adding new ones to classrooms that need it.  Additionally, TV replacement and doc cam replacement will be available.  And finally, standing desks are very popular for our students, so we'll be purchasing more!  Our Waugh grant is for TK and kindergarten and all the hands-on experiences these students need: sensory bins, painting easels, light tables, and more.  The grant also includes enhancing "quiet corners" where students go to calm their bodies and minds.  Another big THANK YOU to PEF!

Youthtruth Student Survey

We will be surveying students anonymously in 3rd-6th grades during class between January 7th and January 30th. This survey gives our students the opportunity to share feedback about their overall experiences at school in areas like belonging & peer collaboration, engagement, relationships, and culture. Because student perceptions are linked to academic outcomes, it's important that we hear from them especially.
A sample of questions asked of our students:  Do you learn interesting things in school? Do you feel safe at school? Do students behave in class? Does your teacher let you explain your ideas?
If you'd like to review all of the questions, they are available in the front office. If you would prefer your student not participate, the opt-out form is also in the office. Opt-out forms are due by December 19th so that teachers are well prepared to survey students starting on Wednesday, January 7th. We look forward to sharing the data with you this spring to celebrate our strengths and make our school and district even better.

Wacky Winter Safe Routes Challenge

Attached here and coming home in the Wednesday folders is the Safe Routes Wacky Winter Scavenger Hunt Challenge. The completed challenges are entered in a raffle to win a knit hat; they are adorable!  You can mail it in or bring it to the Meadow Office by January 28th.  This is a great activity to do over break to get outside and explore with your family!
